ECPA Brings Chinese Culture to Life at EMS International Night (05/30/24) and "We Are Eastchester" Block Party (06/01/24)

The Eastchester Chinese Parents Association (ECPA) recently brought the vibrant tapestry of Chinese culture to two major community events, the 8th Annual Eastchester Middle School International Night on May 30th and the 3rd Annual "We Are Eastchester" Block Party on June 1st.

At the EMS International Night, dedicated ECPA members showcased various aspects of Chinese culture, traditions, and customs through a series of lively and educational booths. Visitors were delighted to immerse themselves in the ancient art of Chinese calligraphy, experience the thrill of traditional sports like Cuju (the original soccer game), explore the intricate beauty of arts and crafts such as delicate paper cutting, and discover iconic landmarks spanning from the majestic Forbidden City to the awe-inspiring Great Wall.

Among the standout participants was 6th grader Jay, whose innovative spirit shone through as he introduced the fascinating concepts behind the Chinese zodiac calendar through an interactive computer app he had coded himself! Equally remarkable was the contribution of 7th graders Kaylah and William, who enthusiastically assisted at the tables and booths, playing a key role in ensuring the event's success.

Another talented ECPA student, 7th grader Ethan, captivated the audience with an engaging presentation that truly brought Chinese culture to life. Ethan's recounting of the ancient story of "Tian Ji's Horse Racing Strategy" revealed the timeless wisdom of ancient Chinese strategy.

The true showstopper, however, was the breathtaking fashion show put on by ECPA students and local Chinese-American children. They modeled stunning traditional Chinese attire with regal grace, from ornate QiPao dresses and regal Tang suits to flowing elegant HanFu garments. The brilliant colors, lavish silks, intricate embroidery, and exquisite accessories mesmerized the audience. A special thanks goes to WenHua, our proud ECPA mom, who skillfully directed this magnificent fashion extravaganza! Great thanks also to all the young performers: Katherine, Catherine, Evelyn, Eliana, Jingxing, Lucy, Lily, and Adalyn, whose poise and elegance left an indelible impression.

Just a few days later, the ECPA participated in Eastchester's "We Are Eastchester" Block Party, hosting a cultural booth to further share their heritage with the community. Our ECPA parents helped attendees learn about various aspects of Chinese culture through interactive displays, engaging activities, and delectable Chinese cuisine.

No Chinese cultural event would be complete without an incredible spread of authentic cuisine! The talented ECPA parents prepared a sumptuous assortment of delicacies for attendees to sample at both events, including savory dumplings, fragrant rice dishes, scrumptious cookies, and assorted dim sum specialties. The tantalizing aromas wafting through the venues transported guests straight to the bustling street markets of China's vibrant cities.

The unified theme of "United We Win" at the International Night and the broader mission of the Block Party to celebrate Eastchester's diversity truly resonated. It highlighted how our global cultures intertwine to create one unified, vibrant community family, as EMS Principal Madelin LoBue eloquently remarked.

The ECPA extends its deepest gratitude to the EMS staff, teachers, families, and the Cultural Celebration Committee who worked tirelessly to make these incredible annual events possible. We cannot wait to participate again next year and continue sharing the richness of Chinese culture with the Eastchester community.
